Afternoon tea at The Palace

Ok, I say ‘The Palace’, I mean ‘The Palace Tea Room’….

…but that’s almost as good, right?

Monday’s entire purpose was getting in to Sydney, to the Queen Victoria Building….

….locating The Palace Tea Room and having afternoon tea. What better purpose for a day could there be? After a worrying ten minutes, during which we wandered around the building, panicking because we couldn’t remember where the Tea Room was, we found it, sat down and yelled, “Afternoon tea!” at the first waitress who came near us. Our panic over not being able to find it had caused our joy at eventually finding it to feel uncertain. The quicker we could get the tea in front of us, the more inclined we were to believe it was happening.

And yes, it was happening. And it looked like this.

It. Was. Phenomenal.

The little pink opera cake thing was extremely tasty, as was the little lime sponge cupcake. The scones were amazing, still warm and accompanied by two huge pots of jam and clotted cream. After Danda had eaten his usual sparrow-sized helping then stopped, I might possibly have had most of his share of the cakes. By accident. Ish.

I cleverly took this picture though, which makes it look like he ate everything and that I was exceedingly ladylike and just had a mini cucumber sandwich.

We then went to meet Yaya’s dad and had a cup of peppermint tea…

Boom. Day done. Numerous cups of tea in different locations.

  1. Why do we eat more than the guys we hang out with? I might even drink tea if they brought me all those treats!

    • Omg. You would’ve. The tea helped the tastiness of the dainty sandwiches and cakes. And yeh, I don’t know why that is. Maybe they don’t appreciate food enough. That’s their problem, not mine!
